Mr. Tom Gladd National History Day - National History Day (NHD) sponsors a yearly contest
where students choose historical topics related to a theme and conduct extensive
primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums, oral history
interviews and historic sites. After analyzing and interpreting their sources
and drawing conclusions about their topics' significance in history, students
present their work in original papers, exhibits, performances and documentaries.
These products are entered into competitions in the spring at local, state and
national levels where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators.
The program culminates in a national competition each June held at the University
of Maryland at College Park. Last year we had a group take home third place at the state level! This year
we want to see more people participate and shoot for first place! CLICK HERE for more information. The Concord Review - The Concord Review is the only quarterly journal
in the world to publish the academic work of secondary students. Have a chance to see your writing in print! Submit to the Concord Review today! Experience Washington, D.C. - Explore our nation's capital during
a 4-day, 3-night trip to Washington, D.C. 40-45 students will be chosen, with
first priority given to National History Club student. To help offset the cost,
the National History Club will sponsor fundraisers that could include, but are
not limited to, guest speakers and movie nights. District-wide History Fair - Showcase your interest in history and invite
the community to share theirs at a district-wide history fair that will serve
as a culminating activity for the year's events. Field Trips - The National History Club would also like to sponsor trips
to the New York State Museum, Archives, and Library as well as to area locations
hosting historians as guest speakers.
