What is an Art Portfolio?

An art portfolio is a large folder that is used to store and organize your child's artwork throughout the school year.  Beginning in kindergarten, students learn to save and care for their artwork. Students can refer back to previous projects and remember what they have learned. Grades 3, 4, and 5 keep their personal sketch books in their portfolios as well as their projects. Sketch books are used for practice drawings, art vocabulary, and artist information.

Why portfolios?

Portfolios are used to assess how your child's ability level has grown throughout the school year. Portfolios organize your child's artwork at school and for saving at home. At the end of the school year, projects are sent home with the student in the portfolio.  An index is included to list the topic and project discussed. I always encourage parent-child discussion of the different projects covered in art class.
